You punched up the contrast but, in the process, lost details in some parts - not the result that I personally usually go for; sometimes it works for me but mostly it doesn't. If you are using PS have you tried playing with the curves? I don't know how familiar you are with the program but if you use it try depressing the left half of the curve while raising the right half (the resulting curve looks somewhat like a flattened S) - this usually increases the contrast without losing much details. Be gentle with this because if you exaggerate it, it will posterize the colors. You may try modifying the individual color curves, too, and see where that gets you.

@Bishop: Thanks for that. I use PS and light room. With this set of images i am trying to get people to think on the process used to get a bad image to some thing that they like. your comment is just the thing i am look for so many thanks
